chinese restaurants have played an important role in
american history, as a matter of fact. the cuban missile
crisis was resolved in a chinese restaurant called
yenching palace in washington, d.c., which unfortunately
is closed now, and about to be turned into walgreen's.
and the house that john wilkes booth planned the
assassination of abraham lincoln is actually also now a
chinese restaurant called wok 'n roll, on h street in
washington.
and if you think about it, a lot of the foods that
you think of or we think of or americans think of as
chinese food are barely recognizable to chinese, for
example: beef with broccoli, egg rolls, general tso's
chicken, fortune cookies, chop suey, the take-out boxes.
so, the interesting question is, how do you go from
fortune cookies being something that is japanese to being
something that is chinese? well, the short answer is, we
locked up all the japanese during world war ii, including
those that made fortune cookies, so that's the time when

the chinese moved in, kind of saw a market opportunity
and took over.

Good morning my friends,
I am a student from class 1 and my name is zou yu
ting.I am very glad thatI can have the chance to make a
speech before you. The topic of my speech is 'Weneed
friendship'.
The word 'friend' has many meanings. It can be a
partner, a playmate aswell as a confident. In all, our
friends play an important role in ourlives.
Maybe you will ask me 'What is friendship? '.some
people say thatfriendship is a ray of sunshine in the
dark. Friendship can make you away fromdarkness and can
cheer you up at the same time.
Based on this, you may come up with another question
'Why we needfriendship? '.We everyone needs friendship.
No one can live alone. As life isfull of difficulties, we
need friends to support and help us out. Our friendsgive
us warnings against danger. Our friends offer us advice
with regard to howto deal with various situations. True
friends share not only happiness, but alsosadness.

As an old saying goes, a friend in need is a friend
in deed. Fortunately, Ihave a true friend. She is not
beautiful but very kind. Every time I met withproblems,
she gave me courage and confidence to overcome
difficulties. When I was in low spirits, she told me
some funny jokes tocheer me up. When I caught in distress
, she rushed to me to lend a helpinghand. All these make
it easy to stay with her. But every time when I
greatlythanked her, she disappeared in the crowd.
Last but not the least. 'How should we make friends?
'Personally I thinkthe most important thing is to be
friendly. Cheerfulness is the basis offriendship. Believe
it , smile is an attractive thing. A friendly person
alwaysthinks of others. People who refuse to consider
others have few friends.
With friendship, life is happy and harmonious. Why
don’t you treasure ourfriendship? Come on, everyone!
